Flying to the USA Tips for a good Flight

USA ESTA Application

Everyone has some innate feeling of insecurity when travelling by aeroplane, after all its not a natural way for a human being to be travelling! If you are coming from Europe or further abroad, the chances are you’re going to be on an eight or more hour flight. There are various ways that you can overcome you fear of flying, or even the boredom that comes with it.

First of all try to book the most expensive flight that you can afford, you will find that the more the flight is the more facilities they will provide to make you journey go quickly and painlessly! The average flight cost from Europe to the USA is around £400-£600, any less and you’re looking at a cattle market!

I personally prefer British Airways as they provide everything a traveller will need on a long haul flight. Try to getting towards the rear of the plane is the safest position should there be a crash into the ground, the impact is less in this area. You will also have quick access to the toilets, which - as long as they are not right next to the seat can be a good thing.

Another point is that the rear area is where the staff hangs out so you will be in a better position than anyone else to grab them to ask for more food/booze/pillows/conversation. Secondly, if you are able to sleep on a plane try to have only a couple of hours sleep the night before so that you can easily doze off after a glass of wine or two.

If you are travelling by yourself passing out is a particularly useful strategy as you won’t have to make conversation with that weird stranger throughout the flight. If you are unable to sleep and are old enough to drink, and don’t act a fool after a few, I suggest you imbibe a fair amount on the fight. Not only does drinking make things much more pleasurable, it also increases the speed with which time goes by.

Most decent airlines will provide free drinks throughout the flight. Try to select a flight to the USA with TV's in the seats, surprisingly there are actually a few decent movies and albums in these things to pass the time. Failing this take a well juiced MP3 player and have a little party. Don’t follow the track of the plane on the onboard map, or follow the countdown to landing clock as these just make time pass slower, instead heed the above advice and have a great flight!
